The Original Amalaki

Research found that amla fruit, commonly known as Indian gooseberry, has anticoagulant and anti-inflammatory properties. This study was published in the British Journal of Nutrition. 

The fruit has more gallic acid than any other fruit, more vitamin C than lemon juice, more polyphenols than red wine, and more antioxidant activity than blueberries. 

How amla reduces intestinal tract inflammation

At therapeutically meaningful concentrations (1-100 g/ml), the amla fruit extract theoretically and significantly decreased lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced tissue factor expression and von Willebrand factor release in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC).  

Additionally, it dramatically reduced the expression of endothelial-leucocyte adhesion molecule-1 (E-selectin) in the target cells and the LPS-induced adherence of human monocytic cells (THP-1) to the HUVEC in a leucocyte adhesion model of inflammation. In a rat model of LPS-induced endotoxemia, the in vivo anti-inflammatory effects were also assessed. TNF- and IL-6 concentrations in serum were markedly reduced after oral administration of the amla fruit extract (50 mg/kg body weight).

These findings imply that amla fruit extract may function as a potent anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant.
